This was the scene at SJSU today when Tommie Smith and John Carlos were honored. The university unveiled an awesome statue of the two Olympic and civil rights heroes. The entire event was great and I was particularly excited to hear legend Harry Edwards speak. Pictured from left to right here is Australia silver medalist Peter Norman, US gold medalist Lee Evans, Carlos, Smith and Edwards. I thought it was interesting to find out that Norman had worn a human rights pin on the medal podium in support and recognition of the silent protest. Carlos had given Norman the pin while they waited to enter the stadium for the medal presentation.
