Sweeping the world?

Batting Clean Up

I don't have class tonight, because our professor is in Mexico City doing his day job with the 49ers. The NFL playing games in Mexico brings up some interesting questions. Is American sport imperialist? If so, what ramifications is it likely to create? Also, is soccer an imperialist sport? What are the social or cultural responsibilities of sport managers when they undertake international projects?

Well, your last question about sports managers is a tough one. They do have responsibilities not to exploit or screw over other countries. But it seems like the case of the 49ers game, the people of Mexico might like being able to watch a professional "football" game. But who knows, from the side of the football team owners, they are only going to Mexico because they know they can make a shitload of money, not to bring something to the masses they are not able to have regularly. And soccer, I do not believe to be an imperialist sport. It seems like soccer might actually be THE most popular sport in the world among 1st and 3rd world countries. My last comment is a question: where did the picture of the sweeping elephant come from?
